London Olympics Post #1

I just returned from a summer program at Stanford University called EPGY and I had the time of my life.  While at EPGY, I studied Environmental and Earth Science and learned many new and interesting things about hydrology.  During down time I would watch the Olympics online and would follow Team USA pretty religiously.  I have seen some amazing accomplishments by our countrymen and women and am very impressed at our performances so far.  Some things have really stood out including the amazing win in the 200 meter backstroke by Missy Franklin and the 83-point win by the United States basketball team over Nigeria.  Nathan Adrian's gold in the 100 meter freestyle and Michael Phelps' in the 200 meter individual medley were also very impressive.  Not related to Team USA, but an amazing story is the heroism shown by Oscar Pistorius in even making the semifinals of the 400 meters in track and field.  Of course Usain Bolt defending his 100 meter Olympic gold will take all of the headlines today and for the right reasons.  He ran a dominating race finishing just before his fellow countryman Yohan Blake and American Justin Gatlin.  Tomorrow also has a lot in store including the woman's pole vault which is expected to be won by Elena Isinbaeva.  Artistic Gymnastics will also take center stage tomorrow with three gold medal being handed out Men's rings and vault and Women's uneven bars.  Women's Soccer semifinals will be played tomorrow as well with the United States facing off against Canada and France battling it out against Japan.  Of course you need to add the United States Men's Basketball team against Argentina as a highlight and it should be a close game as well.  Tomorrow should be an action packed day and I will be tuning into the action to see more history being made.  That is what the Olympics are about.  Dreams coming true.
