The Minnesota Vikings have some of the most faithful fans in the National Football League, but after attending today's game, I could sense some dissension in the crowd. After leading 20-0 at halftime over the Detroit Lions, the Vikings found another way to blow it in the second. After yet another dominating performance by both the offense and the defense in the first half, it all went for naught in the second. Donovan McNabb couldn't seem to hook up with anyone wearing a Vikings uniform or even a Lions uniform for that matter in the second half. The young secondary couldn't stop the incredibly athletic, Calvin Johnson, at all in the second half and started to get passed through like a sieve. It was just an all around collapse for another hapless Minnesota sports team.
Jared Allen was a lone bright spot throughout the game, disrupting the flow of the Lions backfield throughout the game and coming up with sack at the right time. Lorenzo Booker also had a great kickoff return and Ryan Longwell was solid as always. Leslie Frazier really struggled calling plays, which was especially apparent when he went for it on 4th and 1 inside the 18 of the Lions while up 20-17. That field goal would have let the Vikings come away victorious in the game, instead he called a run to the bulldozer known as Toby Gerhart, and he was stuffed clean. It is really frustrating to me and all Vikings fans alive.
The good news coming out of these three weeks is that this team has shown potential domination, they just need to spread it into both halves now. Traveling to 0-3 Kansas City next week should provide the Vikings with their first victory, and hopefully joy to the citizens of Minnesota.
