The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Carolina Panthers, 24-21, today at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Vikings were coming off a hard fought, but tough loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers and they needed a victory to boost the morale of rookie quarterback Christian Ponder. They did just that in a battle between rookie quarterbacks. Cam Newton has played very well for a rookie this year at the helm of the Panthers, but his team has struggled to achieve success. The win brings Ponder's record as a starter to 1-1 and at least gives him a little momentum entiring the bye week.
I know that everyone has given up on the Vikings season and can't find many bright spots this year, I am not in that vast majority. I really believe that the Vikings could put up a run if they just keep playing sound football. Ponder has not shown me anything that would make it look like he isn't pro football ready and I am starting to trust him more and more. With the bye week coming up, that gives the ailing players time to re-coop and get ready for the biggest game of the year coming in two weeks in Green Bay. That game will be played on Monday night and will be the first real primetime test for Ponder. The schedule does not look that tough following the Packers and if the Vikings could pull off an upset they could be looking at a .500 record right around the corner.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts and I am hoping that the Vikings could go on some run, because this is a sports deprived state right now and the fans are just waiting for something big to come by.
