Super Bowl XLVI

I know this is a few days late, but I still need to put in some of my input on this incredibly entertaining Super Bowl.  First of all, this was the first live game of football I had seen on a TV for two months, because I spent the past two months studying abroad in Israel.  Second of all, I was incredibly disappointed that my second favorite team, the Baltimore Ravens, came up just short of reaching the Super Bowl in Indianapolis.  Third of all, I was even more disappointed that the New York Giants made the Super Bowl.  As much as a I hate the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears, there are no fans in the world that I despise as much as New York fans.  So, the combination of agony felt for the Ravens loss and the advancement of the Giants to the Super Bowl, it would probably not turn out to be a good night for me.  Well, I was not let down, and on the contrary I was very impressed and entertained by the game played by both teams.

Eli Manning played out of his mind again in a high pressure situation and really showed that he is starting to challenge his brother as the better Manning quarterback.  The Patriots wide receivers seemed to have applied some butter to their fingers before at halftime, because when the fourth quarter rolled around, they couldn't catch any ball in their vicinity (and trust me, Gisele let them hear it).  Mario Manningham made an unbelievable catch that really kept the Giants in the game and would later lead to their game winning touchdown by Ahmad Bradshaw.  What about Chase Blackburn, the Giants linebacker who was about to become a substitute teacher in rural America before he was called up by the New York Football Giants.  He made a momentum changing and even game changing interception off of Tom Brady that would change his personal as well as the franchise's history forever.  Aside from the statistics and obvious parts of the Super Bowl, it is amazing to find out that just 49 days before the Super Bowl, the Giants were coming off of a dreadful 23-10 loss to the Washington Redskins and were sitting at a very meager 7-7.  Tom Coughlin was quickly headed towards the football coaching guillotine and it looked as though the New York Giants were headed for golf in early January, let alone a Super Bowl victory in early February.  Wow, what an amazing victory.

I cannot emphasize how much I HATE the New York Giants, but I have to admit that I am thoroughly impressed by the way that the Giants came back and made something out of a lost season.  Tom Coughlin deserves some recognition as the greatest coach in the history of the New York Giants.  He certainly told his team something that would turn around the Giants season forever.
